The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, has confirmed Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke remains a party member. He firmly insisted that Governor Adeleke has not left the PDP.
Turaki spoke to newsmen in Abuja. This was after the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting. He addressed trending reports about Governor Adeleke’s resignation from the PDP. However, Turaki confirmed the party has not received official communication regarding Adeleke’s alleged resignation from the Osun State Governor.
Furthermore, Turaki noted that Adeleke is an aspirant. He is currently contesting for the PDP ticket in the upcoming Osun 2026 governorship election.
The NWC also reviewed and approved the congresses held in Osun State. These congresses were crucial for selecting ad-hoc delegates.
“Primaries are currently underway,” Turaki stated. “Governor Adeleke’s name is among those vying for the party’s ticket.”
He emphasized the party’s core philosophy. “Our power and strength do not lie with National Assembly members or governors,” he explained. “It rests with the people. That is why the PDP truly is the People’s Party.”
Ambassadorial Nominations Discussed
Turaki also addressed the recent ambassadorial nominations. President Bola Tinubu nominated former Governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. However, Turaki confirmed the party has not received any official communication on this matter.
“If these individuals approach us, we will evaluate the matter based on its merits,” he said. “Currently, we have not received any formal communication.”
Concerns Over National Security
The PDP Chairman also criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government. He insisted that Nigerians are not safe under their leadership. Turaki called for a complete overhaul of the nation’s security architecture.
“Nigerians face insecurity everywhere,” Turaki lamented. “They are unsafe on the streets, at work, on farms, in markets, or even in their own homes.”
He added, “Every citizen lives in constant fear. This situation demands immediate change.”
