Fulham secured their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after a dramatic penalty shootout victory against Wycombe Wanderers at Craven Cottage on Tuesday night.
The Premier League side overcame stiff resistance from their League One opponents. After a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time, the hosts prevailed 5-4 in sudden-death penalties.
Wycombe stunned the home crowd early when former Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow opened scoring. His fourth-minute strike from distance silenced Craven Cottage. The visitors maintained their lead into halftime through disciplined defending.
Fulham responded immediately after the restart. Josh King leveled the contest just three minutes into the second half. His clever flick from a corner marked his first goal for the club.
Despite controlling possession and creating chances, Fulham failed to find a winner. Wycombe goalkeeper Will Norris made crucial saves to force penalties.
The shootout saw drama unfold. Fulham converted their first four kicks before Norris saved twice. Goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte then emerged as the hero. He made three consecutive saves before Issa Diop netted the decisive penalty.
Elsewhere in the competition, Brentford secured quarter-final qualification with a dominant 5-0 victory over Grimsby Town. Cardiff City also progressed with a 2-1 win against Wrexham.
The remaining fourth-round fixtures continue on Wednesday. Premier League giants Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City enter the fray.
