Austin Okai, a prominent former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially announced his defection. He has now joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking to Daily Post, Okai confirmed his political switch. The vocal socio-political commentator stated his decision was long overdue. He cited a “protracted leadership crisis” within the PDP. This crisis, he noted, affects the party both nationally and in Kogi State.
“I have resigned my membership of the PDP. I am now a member of the ADC,” Okai declared plainly.
Okai’s Role and ADC’s Surge
Before his departure, Okai was one of the PDP’s most visible spokespersons. He frequently represented the party on television, in newspapers, and across social media platforms.
His defection coincides with a significant influx of new members into the ADC. This follows the formal unveiling of the party’s structure in the Kogi West Senatorial District over the weekend.
The event drew numerous political observers and loyalists. It was headlined by former senator and PDP stalwart, Dino Melaye. Melaye described the ADC as “the only viable alternative” for Nigerians seeking true change.

Melaye Criticizes APC, Calls for Change
At the ADC unveiling, Senator Dino Melaye strongly criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He accused the party of plunging Nigeria into severe economic hardship.
“There is massive hunger and starvation across Nigeria,” Melaye declared. “The APC has failed the people. They are out of touch with the everyday realities of Nigerians.”
He urged disillusioned politicians and voters to rally behind the ADC. Melaye affirmed that the party would restore dignity, accountability, and purpose to governance.
