Betty Akeredolu Secures Labour Party Ticket for Owerri Federal Constituency
Former Ondo State First Lady Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has obtained the Labour Party’s ticket to run for the House of Representatives seat representing Owerri Federal Constituency in the forthcoming 2027 general election.
She explained that her decision to pursue the House race followed her withdrawal from a senatorial bid. Although some supporters may be disappointed, she stressed that the move was essential for maintaining party unity and progress.
Akeredolu noted that the Labour Party continues to heal from internal disputes and legal challenges that have hampered its operations for years. By stepping into the House contest, she aims to help reunite members and rebuild the party’s structure ahead of the next electoral cycle.
She linked her choice to her belief in teamwork and collective leadership, highlighting that one motivation for joining the Labour Party was the chance to collaborate with women in leadership roles.
Reiterating that her political ambition centers on service and creating opportunities for women, she affirmed that her goals would remain unchanged regardless of the office she eventually holds in the National Assembly.
Akeredolu pledged to keep advocating for greater female participation in elective positions while promoting leadership grounded in courage, compassion, and purpose.
