Former Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He has now joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
David Alfred-Dogwo, Wada’s media aide, described this move as a major political turning point. He stated it would boost the ruling APC’s structure, especially in Kogi East.
Alfred-Dogwo confirmed, “The brief but significant ceremony marks Captain Wada’s formal entry into the APC. It signals a new chapter in his political journey.”
The event attracted party leaders, supporters, and well-wishers. It is expected to strengthen the APC’s standing in Dekina. This move also supports the party’s preparations for future elections. These include President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
Wada’s Governorship Tenure and 2015 Election
Wada served as Kogi Governor under the PDP from January 2012 to January 2016. He sought re-election in 2015. However, he lost after a supplementary election, concluding a turbulent poll cycle.
The initial governorship election, held on November 21, 2015, was declared inconclusive. The next day, APC candidate Abubakar Audu suddenly passed away. This led the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to schedule a supplementary poll. That election, on December 5, eventually brought Yahaya Bello into office as governor.
Wada’s defection marks his definitive separation from the PDP. It represents a significant shift in Kogi East’s political landscape. This move comes as parties begin early preparations for the 2027 general elections.
