Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has shared insights into his leadership approach. He revealed relying on four senior players for guidance before making key team decisions.
During an interview with former Nigerian star Segun Odegbami on Eagle7 FM, Chelle confirmed William Troost-Ekong remains team captain. This comes as Nigeria prepares for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs against Gabon.
“I’ve never questioned the captaincy. William Troost-Ekong is unequivocally my captain,” Chelle stated during the broadcast.
The coach explained his trusted leadership circle includes Troost-Ekong, Moses Simon, Wilfred Ndidi, and Victor Osimhen. These players serve as his primary advisors for critical matters affecting the squad.
“I maintain a core group of four players for consultation,” Chelle elaborated. “When facing challenges, I first consult William, Moses, Wilfred and Osimhen. They provide essential feedback before I finalize decisions.”
Appointed months ago after interim coach Austin Eguavoen’s departure, Chelle focuses on rebuilding team unity. His collaborative leadership style prioritizes trust and communication to strengthen squad cohesion.
