A young man recently survived a kidnapping incident. It occurred along the Ugwogo Nike–Opi–Nsukka Road in Enugu State. He bravely shared his chilling account of four days in captivity. His story sheds light on how criminal gangs operate on this busy highway.
The victim, identified as Peter, posted his experience on Facebook. Sen. Chijinkem Ugwuanyi later shared his post. Peter recounted his abduction around 5 PM on November 29, 2025. This took place near the final police checkpoint before Ugwogo Roundabout. He was traveling from Nsukka to Enugu at the time.
Peter described a sudden attack. Gunmen opened fire from both ends of the road. Vehicles crashed into one another. He quickly fled into the nearby bush. However, he was intercepted near a Scripture Union building. This location was close to Camp of Grace.
“I heard a loud ‘heey!’ A gun pointed at me. I was ordered to lie down. At that moment, I accepted my fate,” he recalled.
Peter was forced to join other captives. They trekked through dense bushes and farmlands. He described this as a “four-day nomadic lifestyle.” The gang consisted of 11 armed individuals. They carried AK-47 rifles and various other weapons.
Insights into the Kidnapping Leader
Peter described the gang’s leader. “He was a mid-sized man. His voice carried authority. He coordinated all their activities. He spoke fluent English, Pidgin, Fulfulde, and Igbo.”
The kidnappers constantly moved locations. This was to evade security forces. Captives received food only once each day. They were also forced to carry the gang’s supplies.
Continued Attacks and Safety Warnings
During his captivity, Peter observed more criminal activity. The gang carried out at least two additional attacks. These happened on the same road. This brought in more victims.
Peter issued a warning to motorists. He advised avoiding the route during late afternoons and evenings. He suggested that 9 AM to 1 PM seemed relatively safer. He also urged victims’ families to remain calm during ransom negotiations.
Following his release, Peter expressed deep gratitude. He thanked God and everyone who supported him. His detailed account has reignited public concern. Insecurity on Enugu highways remains a serious issue.
