The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is united, according to its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong. He recently declared that no factions exist within the opposition party.
Ememobong specifically addressed claims by Samuel Anyanwu, whom he described as a “factional member.” He stated that Anyanwu lacks the capacity to convene legitimate meetings. Furthermore, Anyanwu cannot take action against Umar Damagun, the PDP’s former National President.
The party spokesperson emphasized the source of PDP’s legitimacy. He explained that authority flows “from bottom up,” rooted in its grassroots support. This foundation, he argued, makes claims of internal factions unfounded. Ememobong clarified that a few unhappy individuals do not constitute a faction. This scenario, he added, is a natural part of democracy, where the majority’s decision stands, but the minority retains the right to voice its concerns.
Ememobong questioned Anyanwu’s authority to dismiss Damagun. He suggested such an attempt would quickly fail due to a lack of legitimate backing. He highlighted that party staff and elected ex-officials are accountable to the state chairman. This structure, Ememobong concluded, underscores the proper chain of command within the PDP.
