Angry members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ekiti State stormed the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday. They protested the disqualification of businessman and politician Kayode Ojo from the upcoming governorship primary.
The demonstration followed Thursday’s announcement by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka. He revealed the screening committee cleared only Governor Biodun Oyebanji and Omolayo Oluremi for the July 20, 2026 governorship ticket.
Chanting solidarity songs, protesters carried placards condemning Ojo’s exclusion. They rejected what they called a plan to impose a consensus candidate. Most demonstrators were women.
Placards displayed messages including “We Say No to Kayode Ojo’s Disqualification” and “We Don’t Want Consensus.” Others read “Ekiti Women Reject BAO” and “APC Must Let Ekiti People Choose Their Candidate.”
Crowds chanted “Ekiti says No to Governor Biodun Oyebanji” and “Yes to Kayode Ojo.” Ojo has long been involved in Ekiti politics. He previously contested the 2018 governorship primary.
The APC later announced Governor Oyebanji as consensus candidate. This followed a shift from direct primary to consensus mode. The change came after Mrs. Omolayo withdrew from the race.
In an October 14 statement, Morka confirmed Omolayo endorsed Oyebanji. She voluntarily stepped aside for the governor’s consensus candidacy.
