The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into extortion allegations by Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji (Oladips). He claims operatives demanded ₦10 million during his arrest.
The probe follows Oladips’ revelation about his November 2024 detention. EFCC arrested him during a midnight raid at his residence. He spent five days in custody before release.
Oladips stated no evidence was found against him. He alleged EFCC officials collected ₦10 million for his freedom. The artist lamented, “Nigeria just happened to me.”
EFCC’s Response and Actions
EFCC expressed strong disapproval of the allegations. The agency stated the claims misrepresent its operatives’ conduct. It immediately initiated an internal probe.
Officers involved in Oladips’ case face scrutiny. They were summoned to EFCC headquarters. All have been temporarily removed from operational duties.
The Commission emphasized its commitment to integrity. It vowed appropriate action against any guilty personnel. EFCC also warned of consequences for false allegations.
“We take this extortion claim seriously,” EFCC declared. “Investigations are underway. The public should await official findings.”
