The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized former governor Adams Oshiomhole. The party accuses him of recycling outdated propaganda in his recent media attacks against ex-governor Godwin Obaseki.
PDP Condemns Oshiomhole’s “Tired Fiction”
In an official statement, PDP Publicity Secretary Dan Osa-Ogbegie dismissed Oshiomhole’s interview as bitterness-driven fiction. He claimed it was an attempt to glorify Senator Monday Okpebholo while attacking Obaseki.
“Oshiomhole’s remarks contained nothing new,” the PDP stated. “They recycle well-worn bitterness and envy-driven propaganda.” The party insists Edo citizens recognize these tactics.
Allegations of Ceremonial Governance
The PDP mocked Oshiomhole’s criticism of recent groundbreaking ceremonies. Osa-Ogbegie alleged the former governor “perfected ceremonial sand-turning” without delivering substantial projects.
The party claimed Oshiomhole’s real legacy includes private real estate developments. They listed properties in Iyamho, Abuja’s Maitama district, and Benin City’s Okorotun area.
“These developments occurred while Edo people suffered,” the statement noted. Residents endured broken hospitals and collapsing infrastructure during his tenure.
Contrasting Governance Records
The PDP attributed Oshiomhole’s criticism to resentment over Obaseki’s successes. They highlighted areas where Oshiomhole reportedly failed:
- Attracting Shoprite to Benin
- Securing foreign investments
- Building a five-star hotel
- Creating a modern conference center
- Industrializing Edo State
Conversely, the party credited Obaseki with significant achievements:
- Establishing Radisson Hotel and international conference center
- Attracting major investors like Tolaram Group
- Developing Benin Enterprise Park
- Expanding Ossiomo Power Project
- Launching EdoBEST education reforms
Additional Criticisms
The PDP dismissed Oshiomhole’s comments about the Gelegele project as hypocritical. They noted he failed to develop the area during his governorship.
The party also accused Oshiomhole of undermining Ambrose Alli University. They claimed he starved the institution of funds while establishing a competing university.
A committee probing the Museum of West African Art faced sharp criticism. The PDP labeled it “a committee of the bitter” with zero relevant expertise.
Final Rebuke
The PDP condemned Oshiomhole’s “ancestors” remark about party leaders as undignified. They suggested his political influence has significantly declined.
“Oshiomhole’s outbursts reflect panic from a fading political era,” the statement concluded. The party believes Edo citizens have moved beyond his “drama” and stage performances.
