Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has made a striking political declaration. He asserts that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election within Edo State.
During an interview with journalist Babajide Otitoju, Governor Okpebholo vowed to resign. This would occur if President Tinubu does not win the 2027 election in Edo.
Okpebholo cited various state projects and governance advancements. These have been implemented since the All Progressives Congress (APC) assumed power. He believes Edo citizens are fully aligned with the APC ahead of 2027.
“There is no opposition here in Edo,” he stated. “Everyone in this state supports Asiwaju.”
The governor acknowledged President Tinubu’s strong political influence. He noted that Tinubu’s reach in Edo State exceeds his own.
“Tinubu is more popular than me in Edo State,” Okpebholo affirmed. He reiterated his pledge: “If he doesn’t win the presidential election in Edo in 2027, I will resign.”
The governor firmly restated, “I will resign if he doesn’t win in 2027.”
“Edo people understand that my actions stem from Asiwaju’s influence,” Okpebholo explained. “You will witness the results here. There is no opposition in Edo.”
He continued, “Everyone here supports Asiwaju.” Challenging opponents, he questioned, “Who are Obaseki’s supporters? Does ‘Albasaki’ have any presence here? Let him come. Is Oshiomole not visible on our streets? Let him try.”
Okpebholo further boasted about his local support. “Anytime he comes to Edo, he will hear my voice,” the governor asserted. “Let him visit. I’m confident in our standing.”
He added, “I am not trying to intimidate him. He is aware of the situation. Our records speak for themselves.”
Okpebholo stated firmly, “You cannot deceive Edo people and expect to be welcomed. He cannot come here. His poor record will prevent him.”
He concluded with a strong comparison: “Children pray for me on the streets. No child will pray for ‘Albasaki’. No mother will pray for Obaseki.”
