Promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed Anthony Joshua could make a boxing comeback before 2024 concludes. The Nigerian-born heavyweight has been inactive since his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024.
Hearn rated Joshua’s chances of returning this year as “50-50.” The former two-time world champion might feature on Matchroom’s December 13 California show. Alternatively, he could appear on the December 27 “Night of the Samurai” event.
“When you think about it, this makes boxing sense,” Hearn told The Ring. “Joshua usually headlines massive stadium events. An undercard appearance would let him regain his flow.”
The 36-year-old remains training-ready according to Hearn. He could accept fights with just two weeks’ notice. Joshua initially explored boxing in Mexico before logistical concerns arose.
This strategic move aims to rebuild Joshua’s confidence. A low-profile return prepares him for major 2026 matchups. Previous plans for a Jake Paul bout faded when Paul chose Gervonta Davis.
Joshua hasn’t fought non-headlining bouts in over ten years. The Olympic gold medalist holds a 28-4 record with 25 knockouts. Future possibilities include a long-awaited Tyson Fury clash.
A February fight in Ghana remains another potential option. Joshua seeks to reignite his career after being dropped from The Ring’s rankings.
