Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has initiated legal action against Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation Liberation City, demanding ₦1 billion in damages. She alleges the clergyman failed to honor repeated promises to marry her after a nine-year relationship.
Court documents reveal the relationship began in 2017. Ogala claims Pastor Okafor consistently assured her of marriage. These pledges were reportedly demonstrated through his actions. He introduced her to family members and attended public events with her.
The actress states she made significant life decisions based on these promises. She left a troubled marriage and granted the pastor access to her finances. Court filings cite a single transaction of ₦45 million transferred to Okafor.
The conflict escalated when Pastor Okafor announced his engagement to another woman. Ogala’s legal team contends this caused severe emotional distress. It also damaged her reputation and invited public scrutiny.
Her lawyers further allege private photographs were shared without consent. While acknowledging marriage cannot be compelled, they cite Nigerian legal provisions. The law permits compensation for breached promises causing demonstrable harm.
Ogala seeks both general and aggravated damages. Her legal representatives emphasize the profound personal and public consequences of the alleged betrayal.
Pastor Okafor and his legal team haven’t responded to the allegations. The case gained public attention following his recent marriage ceremony. The wedding proceeded despite Ogala’s prior legal threats.
