Donald Duke Clinches PRP Presidential Ticket for 2027
Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has secured the presidential nomination of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 general election.
Primary Results Announced in Abuja
The outcome of the PRP presidential primary was declared on Tuesday, May 26, at the party’s national secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory. National Chairman Dr Hakeem Baba‑Ahmed announced that Duke polled 6,499 votes, comfortably ahead of his closest rival, Kingsley Yakubu, who received 2,699 votes.
Dr Nnaoke Ufere, an academic and policy expert, finished third with 784 votes. Baba‑Ahmed described the primary as peaceful, transparent, and fair, emphasizing that the process adhered to the party’s internal democratic procedures.
Path Forward for the 2027 Campaign
Duke’s victory positions him as the PRP flagbearer for the upcoming presidential election. The former governor, known for his tenure in Cross River State, will now lead the party’s campaign as political organizations across Nigeria continue preparations for the 2027 general election.
Baba‑Ahmed also urged any aspirant dissatisfied with the result to lodge complaints through the party’s Appeal Committee, which remains available to review grievances in line with PRP rules.
