Renowned Nigerian disc jockey Imohiosen Patrick, professionally known as DJ Neptune, has called for African creatives to establish their own streaming platforms. The 35-year-old artist emphasized this move would harness the power of Africa’s vast audience.
“We need to start thinking about owning our streaming platforms,” Neptune stated. “Our numbers give us incredible leverage. Just imagine securing four to five percent of that audience consistently engaging with my music and shows. That alone would sustain my entire career.”
The award-winning DJ stressed the transformative potential of unified action: “Collaboration is the new gold. When we negotiate collectively, discussions become more impactful. This unity directly benefits creators.”
Despite his success, Neptune maintains his original drive. “My hunger remains unchanged since day one. My ultimate goal? Global recognition as Africa’s top DJ—specifically representing Nigeria.”
Financial Freedom Through Ownership
Neptune highlighted ownership as key to lasting prosperity: “With fan-supported platforms, artists achieve true financial security. It’s about controlling our creative ecosystem rather than depending on external systems.”
His vision extends beyond personal gain. Neptune advocates for pan-African cooperation to reshape the continent’s creative economy through self-owned digital infrastructure.
