Nigerian music star Davido has publicly criticized Jubril A. Gawat. Gawat serves as the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The criticism followed Gawat’s recent social media post. This post promoted fellow artist Wizkid’s upcoming concert.
Gawat captioned his promotional post with the phrase, “Ọmọ Wa ni.” A fan then commented on Wizkid’s significant influence in Lagos.
The fan wrote, “Wizkid is the face of Lagos. Baba Bolu always promotes Lagos.” Gawat promptly responded, “Yes, correct. We are proud of him.”
Later, another fan brought Davido into the conversation. The fan asked Gawat, “Ore oga nko?” Gawat reiterated that his principal was proud of Wizkid.
Davido reacted sharply to this exchange. He directly told Gawat to move past old issues. He also mentioned a previous tweet from Gawat. Davido urged him to simply let the matter go.
Davido’s message to the governor’s aide read: “Bro it’s been a year let it go … why e still dey do u .. grow up. Since yesterday… let it go nah … cheer up.”
A History of Online Clashes
This recent online exchange is not the first between Davido and Gawat. They have a history of public disagreements on social media. In September 2020, for instance, Davido and Gawat clashed over political issues. This particular incident occurred after the Edo State governorship election. Their feud began when Davido openly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He labeled the commission as “dangerous.” Gawat, who is an APC member, responded cryptically to Davido’s remarks. Davido then continued to challenge him.
