Nigerian music star Davido has publicly criticized Jubril A. Gawat. Gawat is the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The criticism followed a social media post promoting Wizkid’s upcoming concert.
Gawat’s post featured the caption: “Ọmọ Wa ni.” This translates to “He is our child.” A fan then highlighted Wizkid’s influence in Lagos.
The fan stated, “Wizkid is the face of Lagos. Baba Bolu always promotes Lagos.” Gawat agreed, saying, “Yes, correct. We are proud of him.”
Another fan then asked about Davido’s standing: “Ore oga nko?” Gawat responded by reiterating that his principal was proud of Wizkid.
Davido sharply criticized Gawat’s response. He urged the aide to move on from previous disagreements. The music star referenced an older tweet by Gawat. Davido’s message was direct: “Bro, it’s been a year. Let it go. Why does it still bother you? Grow up. Since yesterday… let it go now. Cheer up.”
Previous Clashes Between Davido and Gawat
This online exchange marks another incident between the two public figures. Their previous disagreement occurred in September 2024. It involved political issues after the Edo State governorship election.
Davido had criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He called INEC’s actions “dangerous.” Gawat, an APC member, responded with cryptic remarks. Davido continued to challenge him. He referenced past meetings with Governor Sanwo-Olu.
