The Osun State Government has appointed Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund. This strategic move aims to leverage Davido’s influence for sports development across the state.
Government officials stated Davido’s new role will attract financial backing from local and international donors. These funds will enhance sports facilities and athlete development programs statewide.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to sports infrastructure revival. A key project involves renovating Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards. Officials confirmed the upgrades will be completed soon.
Plans are advancing to establish the Osun State Sports Commission. This body will oversee sports administration, policy development, and implementation throughout the state.
Adewusi, a state representative, emphasized the Trust Fund’s purpose. “The fund ensures sustainable financing for athletes and facilities,” he stated. “Davido immediately accepted this important role.”
Regarding the stadium project, Adewusi confirmed: “Renovation continues at Osogbo Township Stadium. We’ll meet Olympic specifications in record time.”
He added: “The Sports Commission plans are nearly finalized. It will centralize sports management statewide. Davido’s involvement will positively impact Osun’s sports funding.”
