Afrobeats icon David Adeleke, known globally as Davido, sparked excitement among fans after revealing his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. The award-winning artist shared photos from their engagement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, calling it an honor.
Davido’s post stated: “It was an honour meeting #EmmanuelMacron and sharing our visions for a better world.” Though he didn’t disclose specific discussion details, the encounter signifies strengthened cultural diplomacy between Nigeria and France.
President Macron has consistently demonstrated interest in Africa’s entertainment and creative sectors. His 2018 visit to the Afrika Shrine—home of late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti—highlighted this commitment. Macron then described the venue as an iconic center for promoting African culture and music.
The meeting with Davido reinforces Macron’s cultural outreach strategy. It comes as Nigeria’s Afrobeats scene gains unprecedented global recognition. This aligns with recent initiatives like the Création Africa Forum hosted in Lagos.
The French-curated forum showcased innovations across digital fashion, gaming, and immersive technologies. Organized by Maison des Mondes Africains under France’s Foreign Ministry, it aims to boost investment in Africa’s creative and digital industries.
