Fans of Afrobeats superstar Davido have flooded social media with outrage following chaotic scenes at his Enugu concert, where security failures led to dangerous overcrowding and widespread theft at Michael Okpara Square.
The November 1 event marked the third stop on Davido’s Nigerian tour after Akwa Ibom and Adamawa shows. The tour will conclude with performances in Ibadan (November 9) and Lagos (December 25). Unlike previous stops, the Enugu concert drew fierce criticism.
Attendees reported alarming conditions as the venue hosted over 40,000 people – nearly double its 20,000 capacity. Multiple security failures created a perilous environment with gate breaches, physical harassment, and inadequate crowd control throughout the night.
Fan Accounts: Harrowing Experiences Emerge
Concertgoers shared distressing accounts on social media:
@adis_beautification: “Security did a terrible job. Gatecrashers broke through entrances while guards were absent. Touts used razor blades to slash bags. Many girls got robbed – my phone was stolen.”
@hairz_by_steph: “People groped women in the crushing crowd. My nails got torn off. Davido arrived at 3 a.m. instead of 4 p.m. A man tried stealing from me. Security carried me out for safety.”
@mmachukwu: “Security tasered and caned people at the gates. Crowd surges made everyone fall like dominoes. It was terrifying.”
@mirabel_merra: “When security abandoned posts, gates collapsed. I barely prevented my sister from falling in the stampede.”
@reallifestories: “Thieves stole my wig, shoes, and phone. A stranger gave me clothes and slippers while I cried.”
@Gidi_Traffic: “Event organizers must prioritize women’s safety in 2025. This was unacceptable.”
The incidents have ignited discussions about safety standards at Nigerian entertainment events, with fans demanding better security protocols for future concerts.
