A Lagos court has discharged auto dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna, popularly known as IVD, clearing him of involvement in his late wife Bimbo Ogbonna’s death.
Bimbo’s family previously accused IVD of responsibility for her passing. This led to his arrest and prosecution by Lagos State authorities.
Following the verdict, IVD’s partner Blessing Onyejiaku celebrated on social media. She praised Nigeria’s justice system while advising people to leave harmful relationships.
“Discharged and acquitted! After four years of false narratives, Nigeria’s justice system works. IVD, you can now reclaim your life,” Blessing stated. “If your marriage isn’t working, please leave immediately.”
Bimbo Ogbonna died in October 2022 from injuries sustained in a Lagos home fire incident. The case drew national attention amid allegations of domestic issues.
IVD faced involuntary manslaughter charges starting March 2023. He received bail during proceedings but was rearrested in August 2025 while traveling for his wedding.
The recent court decision concludes the prolonged legal battle surrounding the tragic case.
