Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has been handed a one-match suspension by Birmingham City. This follows his fifth yellow card of the season during Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Preston North End.
The English Football Association confirmed the automatic ban. This disciplinary action aligns with EFL regulations. Osayi-Samuel entered the referee’s book just 12 minutes into the match. He fouled Preston striker Daniel Jebbison.
This latest caution adds to previous bookings. He received them in matches against Ipswich Town, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, and Swansea City. The 26-year-old joined Birmingham City this summer.
Osayi-Samuel transferred from Turkish club Fenerbahce on a free transfer. He has quickly become a regular starter. The right-back has made nine appearances this Championship season.
Tuesday’s game marked his first league start since September 30. He replaced Patrick Roberts unexpectedly. Roberts injured himself during pre-match warm-ups.
Birmingham City substituted Osayi-Samuel early in the second half. This was a precautionary move. He recently recovered from a fitness issue.
The suspension sidelines him for Birmingham’s upcoming league fixture. However, he remains available for Nigeria’s Super Eagles. He can play in November’s World Cup qualifier against Gabon.
