Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He cited persistent leadership turmoil at the party’s national level. This was the main reason for his decision.
Governor Adeleke confirmed his resignation in a statement issued Monday night. He submitted the letter to party officials on November 4, 2025. This took place in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government.
Governor Adeleke’s Official Statement
Governor Adeleke released a statement. He stated, “I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member.” This decision stemmed from “the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig).” He noted this crisis was “at the national level.”
He added, “I thank the party and its many members and supporters.” He appreciated the opportunities provided. These included serving as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He also became Governor of Osun State through the party.
The Osun State PDP leadership had hoped for a different outcome. They believed a resolution could still persuade Governor Adeleke to stay. This resolution needed formal recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It was also tied to the timeline for the Osun governorship poll. They wished he would seek the party’s nomination again.
