A woman from Borno State recently found gold worth ₦23.6 million. She had buried it 15 years prior in Mallamfatori. This was during her escape from a Boko Haram attack.

How the Gold Was Hidden
Reports indicate the woman was much younger then. She acted in panic. Insurgents were approaching her community.

With little time, she wrapped her late mother’s gold coins and jewelry. She put them in a jar. She then buried it. She fled with other residents.
Fifteen years passed. She returned to Mallamfatori. Police officers helped her. They sought the precise burial spot.

ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso confirmed the event on Monday, December 1, 2025. He is the Borno State Police Command spokesperson. Officers recovered 22cc of gold, worth ₦20 million. They also found a gold bracelet and chain, valued at ₦3.6 million.
The items were intact. They were returned to the woman.
The Borno State Police Commissioner, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, praised the Mallamfatori Divisional Police Officer and his team. He commended their professionalism and integrity. They recovered valuable property for a female resident. The woman had fled Mallamfatori during a Boko Haram attack 15 years earlier. She returned and requested police help to find buried items. Officers diligently recovered 22cc of gold, worth about ₦20 million. A gold bracelet and chain, valued at ₦3.6 million, were also found. The Commissioner lauded the officers’ honesty and dedication. He stated their actions uphold Nigeria Police Force values. He added that public confidence in law enforcement is strengthened. CP Abdulmajid affirmed the Command’s commitment. This includes safeguarding lives and property. He encouraged residents to support the police for better security.
