PDP Must Respect Court Orders to Govern, Says Bode George
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees member Bode George has urged the party to uphold the rule of law. His statement comes amid conflicting court orders regarding the party’s scheduled 2025 National Convention.
PDP’s Internal Crisis Deepens
The PDP faces internal divisions with two factions emerging. One faction supports Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and is led by Abdulrahman Mohammed. The other faction is chaired by Umar Damagum.
Conflicting Court Rulings
Recent judicial decisions have complicated matters. Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja blocked the convention. However, the Oyo State High Court later directed the party to proceed with the Ibadan event.
George addressed the legal contradictions during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He stressed that the PDP must demonstrate commitment to judicial processes.
Governance Credibility at Stake
“We are a law-abiding organisation,” George declared. “We must show Nigerians we believe in the rule of law.”
He added firmly, “You cannot be a party disobeying court judgment and expect to take over governance. Let us obey the court’s judgment.”
The party leader’s remarks highlight the critical link between legal compliance and political legitimacy in Nigeria’s democracy.
