Chief Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has termed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s departure from the party a “desperate move for survival.”
Chief George shared his thoughts in Lagos on Tuesday. He was addressing newsmen on the state of the nation. He also released a statement about Nigeria’s political instability.
George suggested Adeleke’s quick exit stemmed from internal party crises. However, he insisted it was a desperate quest for survival.
He explained that confusion over the party’s leadership likely forced this desperate action.
George stated that members are free to leave the party. He added that the PDP would only grow stronger. “Unhealthy branches fall away,” he noted.
As a life member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), George declared: “Anyone wishing to leave the party is free to do so. A political party, like a tree, grows stronger when unhealthy branches fall away.”
Meanwhile, George also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) government. He claimed they are trying to destroy the PDP. He said they aim to undermine Nigeria’s democracy.
George urged President Bola Tinubu to act immediately. He asked him to caution FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Wike should stop interfering in the PDP’s internal affairs, George insisted.
He claimed the APC government focuses on political positioning for 2027. This comes at the expense of national security and institutional integrity.
George criticized the government’s slow response to rising insecurity. Abductions and killings plague several states. The government must act faster, he urged.
He stated: “Instead of responding with urgency, the APC-led Federal Government appears preoccupied with political positioning ahead of 2027, even if it means weakening institutions and suffocating the opposition.”
George cited the November 18, 2025 disruption at the PDP National Secretariat. He called it a “grave warning.” It signals a broader anti-democratic pattern, he argued.
He directly implicated the FCT Minister in the chaos. George alleged a federal minister encouraged the forceful entry. This referred to Wike’s faction, recently expelled from the party.
George stated: “The actions of a group previously expelled for anti-party activities, reportedly encouraged by a serving Federal Minister, constitute an unacceptable assault on democratic order… The forced entry into the PDP National Secretariat crossed every line of decency and legality.”
George questioned the police actions during the fracas. Police deployed tear gas to disperse clashing factions. He found this concerning.
He asked: “Who authorised the police to take over the headquarters? Under what authority? Since when does a tenant overtake a landlord?”
George concluded that the APC government uses this situation. They aim to destroy the PDP. He called PDP the “only true national party in Nigeria.” The APC government provides police protection to “renegades,” he claimed.
George issued a direct appeal to President Tinubu. He also gave a strong warning to Minister Wike.
He stated: “It is, therefore, imperative that you call your minister to order and insist that he respects the laws of the land.”
He continued, addressing Minister Wike: “I speak as an elder. You have greatly benefited from the PDP. You served as Chairman of a Local Government, Chief of Staff, Minister, and Governor. The party nurtured your political rise. It is painful to see you take actions that could damage this institution. Power is temporary; reputation is permanent. Do not let yourself be used to destabilise the Republic.”
George concluded: “History is replete with lessons. When institutions are weakened, chaos follows. This is not the path Nigeria deserves.”
