Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blames Nigeria’s colonial past. He asserts that the British left behind two significant “evils” in the country. These, he explained, are tribalism and religious bigotry.
George shared these views during a Friday appearance on Arise Television. He was discussing the current state of the nation. The elder statesman lamented how these colonial divisions impact nearly every national issue today.
He emphasized his point, stating, “When the British left here, they left two evils in this country. The first is tribalism, and the second is religious bigotry.”
George challenged the very basis of these divisions. He rhetorically asked about the accident of birth. “Did you ask the Almighty God where you want to be born? To be a Yoruba man, an Hausa man, or a Fulani man?”
He continued, “This crazy thing they left behind still affects us. Every issue revolves around it. What has this got to do with making people happy?”
Chief George then appealed to the current APC government. He urged them to address the widespread hunger and anger in the land. He stressed the need for meaningful engagement opportunities for Nigerians. Especially as the nation approaches another election year.
He concluded with a stern warning. “When you compound all those together, it is a time bomb.”
