Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda recently explained the inspiration behind his hit song ‘Cash App’. He revealed he wrote it for internet fraudsters, often called ‘Yahoo boys’.
The Stressful Hustle Behind ‘Cash App’
Speaking with Clout Africa, Shmurda discussed the challenges of internet fraud. He described it as a stressful hustle. He believes it is sometimes necessary to uplift ‘Yahoo boys’. Making them happy, he said, is important.
The host asked about the song’s origin. Shmurda replied that ‘Yahoo boys’ need to dance. “These people that are hustling, you have to make them happy,” he stated. He added, “Internet fraud is stressful. It has a lot of challenges.”
He emphasized the divine nature of the song. “When it comes to inspiration, you don’t have any story behind it,” he explained. “It is natural, it just comes. It is God-given. So, Cash App is divine.”
Defending Artiste Performance Fees
Shmurda also recently addressed claims about Nigerian artistes’ performance fees. He refuted suggestions that these fees are skyrocketing without reason.
The ‘Eye Clear’ crooner explained the many people musicians pay. These include behind-the-scenes staff on their tours. Their fees cover these expenses.
He further cited high music production costs. Promotion expenses also contribute. Maintaining a celebrity lifestyle is expensive, he noted. These factors justify higher performance fees, according to Shmurda.
