Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has countered claims that artists are overcharging for performances. The ‘Eye Clear’ hitmaker explained the financial realities behind musicians’ fee structures.
Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, known professionally as Bella Shmurda, stated artists must cover numerous expenses from their earnings. Tour crew salaries and production investments significantly impact pricing.
“Music creation involves massive costs,” the artist revealed. “I spent $100,000 compensating producers, songwriters, and engineers for my album. That’s over ₦100 million.”
He highlighted additional expenses like music videos and promotions. Maintaining a celebrity image also demands continuous investment in wardrobe and lifestyle.
“Performance fees must recover these investments,” Shmurda stated. “Even without profit, we need to cover production expenses. From our perspective, these charges are justified.”
The musician emphasized that industry outsiders often misunderstand these financial pressures. Proper evaluation requires acknowledging the full scope of artist expenditures.
