Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has publicly addressed the physical altercation between social media commentator VeryDarkMan and comedian Mr Jollof that occurred during a flight.
In an Instagram video, Basketmouth expressed shock at seeing two adults engage in a fistfight within the confined space of an airplane, questioning how the situation escalated to physical violence.
Basketmouth’s Peaceful Approach to Conflict
The comedian contrasted the incident with his own longstanding feud with colleague AY Makun, emphasizing that despite their differences, they never resorted to physical confrontation. Basketmouth described the plane fight as “embarrassing” and urged people to embrace peaceful conflict resolution.
“Like everybody else, I just saw the video of Mr Jollof and VDM fighting in a public space, not just any public place, but inside a plane. As plane tight reach, these grown men still find space dey fight. And I asked myself, how did we get here?”
“Me and AY get issues for the long time, but it never got to the point that me and him go start to exchange punches. How embarrassing is this? Why can’t we just live in love and peace?”
Roots of the Conflict
Tensions between VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof escalated after the former accused Mr Jollof’s wife of associating with politicians and internet fraudsters to advance her husband’s political ambitions in Delta State. These allegations deepened the hostility between the two personalities.
The in-flight altercation resulted in both men being arrested, while the airline and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority have initiated investigations into the incident. Both parties have since issued public apologies.
