New information has surfaced regarding the recent visit of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Atiku had posted photographs of their meeting on his social media accounts. He described the encounter as “a pleasure catching up.” Jonathan had recently returned from Guinea-Bissau.
This meeting quickly fueled widespread speculation within political circles. The exact details of their discussion remained private.
However, Atiku’s media aide, Mr. Paul Ibe, has clarified the situation. Speaking with Daily Trust, he stated that the visit carried no political implications.
Ibe explained that Atiku simply wished to check on Jonathan. This was after the challenging situation Jonathan faced in Guinea-Bissau. The former president had been in the country during its recent election.
“The former Vice President visited ex-President Jonathan due to his experience in Guinea-Bissau,” Ibe stated. “They hadn’t met since then. Atiku felt it was important to check on him. There is absolutely nothing political about this meeting.”
Meanwhile, Jonathan’s spokesperson, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, also commented. He mentioned not being aware of the specifics of their discussion.

Jonathan’s Ordeal in Guinea-Bissau
Jonathan was among several African leaders who found themselves stranded in Guinea-Bissau. This occurred on November 26, following a coup attempt in the West African nation.
He was serving as part of a joint mission. This mission included representatives from the African Union (AU), ECOWAS, and the West African Elders Forum. Their purpose was to monitor the country’s presidential election.
