Justice Prof. Peter Umeadi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has announced his departure from the party and complete withdrawal from Nigerian partisan politics.
In an official letter dated November 24, 2025, addressed to APGA’s Ward 1 Chairman in Nri, Anambra State, Umeadi expressed gratitude to the party. He acknowledged their support during the last general elections.
The letter stated: “I respectfully write to resign from my membership of Nri Ward 1, All Progressives Grand Alliance. By the same token, I withdraw from all partisan politics in Nigeria.”
Umeadi further noted: “I thank APGA for fielding me as its presidential candidate in 2023. This resignation takes effect immediately.”
Legal Pioneer in Politics
The former jurist made history as Nigeria’s first academic lawyer to secure a major party presidential nomination. His Umeadi–Mohammed 2023 campaign emphasized constitutional principles.
Key pillars of his platform included strengthening the rule of law and ensuring equitable social progress. Umeadi joined APGA in March 2019 and secured the presidential ticket in June 2022.
Distinguished Legal Career
Born July 4, 1955, Umeadi served as Anambra State Chief Judge between 2011-2019. He maintains academic affiliations with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
The legal scholar holds multiple honors including Life Bencher status. He serves as patron of Anambra Book and Creativity Network and belongs to the World Jurist Association.
Throughout his career, Umeadi received numerous awards recognizing his contributions to Nigeria’s legal system and society.
