Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Anambra’s recent governorship election, has rejected the victory of Professor Chukwuma Soludo. Ukachukwu declared the electoral process compromised. He cited widespread violence and intimidation against his supporters.
Speaking to journalists in Awka, Ukachukwu detailed numerous electoral irregularities. He alleged targeted attacks on his supporters during Saturday’s polls. Many sustained injuries and property damage. The APC candidate claimed these actions distorted the people’s will.
Allegations of Systematic Intimidation
Ukachukwu revealed disturbing incidents of electoral violence. His deputy governor candidate reportedly fled threats to her life. Supporters faced arson attacks on homes and vehicles. Party agents were allegedly abducted and detained until voting concluded.
“We thank our gallant team members,” Ukachukwu stated. “They’re all winners despite intimidation tactics. We’re consulting agents and collating evidence. We’ll respond appropriately when ready.”
Controversy Over Arrested Funds
The APC candidate disputed claims of vote-buying. Authorities arrested a supporter carrying agent payment funds. Ukachukwu questioned how he could outspend a sitting governor. He noted the election results reflected this imbalance.
“They arrested my supporter with agent payments,” he explained. “They called it vote-buying money. How can I compete financially with state resources? The vote counts prove this.”
Significance of 99,000 Votes
Despite the setbacks, Ukachukwu highlighted his 99,000 votes as significant. He considers this proof of APC’s growing influence. These voters will help determine their next steps.
“Ninety-nine thousand genuine votes are unprecedented,” Ukachukwu asserted. “These supporters believe in better governance for Anambra. Their commitment shows APC cannot be ignored here. We’ll consult them about our response.”
