Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a prominent House of Representatives member and Northern Caucus leader, has declared that loyalists of late President Muhammadu Buhari will continue holding Nigeria’s ruling party accountable. The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain emphasized this stance is crucial ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Loyalty Beyond Blind Support
Doguwa clarified that true party loyalty requires constructive criticism. He stated that Buhari’s supporters must identify governance gaps to prevent the APC from losing public trust. This approach aims to avoid electoral repercussions in future polls.
“We’ll consistently advise those in power on right actions for the people,” Doguwa affirmed. “This ensures we face no uncomfortable questions during elections.”
Buhari’s Enduring Legacy
The lawmaker highlighted Buhari’s unwavering APC membership until his death. He noted this remains a guiding principle for Northern supporters. Doguwa stressed their commitment to preserving Buhari’s pro-poor governance legacy.
“Northern Nigerians maintain strong identification with APC,” Doguwa declared. “Our leader died as a committed party member.”
Northern Unity and Leadership
Doguwa expressed confidence in Northern Nigeria’s political cohesion. He credited religious and traditional leaders with mobilizing citizen engagement. Their role remains vital for effective governance participation across the region.
Notable Event Attendees
Doguwa’s declaration came during a gathering featuring prominent figures. Attendees included Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and ex-APC Chairman Bisi Akande. Information Minister Mohammed Idris and former presidential aide Ibrahim Gambari also participated.
The event hosted former National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno and reviewer Segun Adeniyi. Traditional representation came from the Emir of Argungu alongside envoys of the Sultan of Sokoto and House Speaker.
