The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has announced the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of all 25 chairmanship positions in the state’s local government elections. The polls concluded on Saturday.
APC candidates also secured 271 out of 274 councillorship seats. This result reinforces the party’s political dominance across Niger State.
Commissioner for Operations Barrister Mohammed Liman confirmed the outcome in a statement. He explained that NSIEC finalized the declaration after completing collation and verification processes.
“Our thorough review ratified the results. This confirms APC’s victory in all chairmanship positions,” Liman stated. He emphasized the commission’s adherence to electoral laws.
Key Election Winners
Notable elected chairmen include:
- Dr. Mustapha M. Jibrin (Chanchaga)
- Usman Manko Mohammad (Bida)
- Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu (Agaie)
The Peoples Democratic Party secured only two councillorship seats. These were in Tafa and Rafi Local Government Areas. One ward’s results remain inconclusive pending review.
Liman confirmed no major disruptions occurred during voting. All Returning Officers submitted final reports smoothly.
NSIEC is preparing Certificate of Return presentations. Stakeholders will receive details about the ceremony date and venue later.
The commission commended security agencies and election observers. It also thanked political parties, media, and voters. Their cooperation ensured peaceful elections throughout Niger State.
