Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Bashir Gegu, has cautioned that the All Progressives Congress (APC) could lose Kogi State in the 2027 general elections if President Bola Tinubu sidelines former Governor Yahaya Bello. Gegu issued this warning during a political gathering in Kogi Local Government Area.
Architect of Political Structure
In statements shared on his Facebook page, Gegu emphasized Bello’s foundational role in the state’s political landscape. He described the former governor as the architect of Kogi’s current political structure and a decisive factor in APC’s continued dominance.
“If former Governor Yahaya Bello is not carried along, APC cannot win Kogi State. That is the plain truth,” Gegu stated unequivocally.
Rally Clarification
The commissioner dismissed social media interpretations of a recent Lokoja rally as power play. He clarified the event was an expression of gratitude toward President Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
“The rally was a show of appreciation, not a protest. But let no one make the mistake – without Yahaya Bello, there’s no APC victory in Kogi,” Gegu reaffirmed.
Enduring Political Influence
Gegu credited Bello for establishing political stability and enhancing Kogi’s federal visibility. He stressed that the former governor’s influence remains significant across all districts in the state.
