The All Progressives Congress (APC) national leadership has confirmed that Senator Gbenga Daniel remains a full member of the party, rejecting the suspension imposed by the Ogun State chapter. The former governor, who represents Ogun East in the Senate, retains his membership status pending proper investigation into the allegations against him.
National Working Committee Intervention
In an official letter dated November 17, APC National Secretary Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru clarified that the National Working Committee (NWC) has not reviewed or investigated the allegations against Senator Daniel. The correspondence emphasized that due constitutional processes outlined in Articles 21.3(d & e) must be followed before any disciplinary action.
“The NWC is yet to deliberate on this matter. Consequent upon this, you are requested to allow the National Working Committee to investigate and take an informed decision… Until then, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member.”
Ogun Chapter’s Position
The Ogun State APC maintains its stance on the suspension, with Director of Publicity Femi Nuberu citing alleged anti-party activities during August’s Remo Federal Constituency by-election. Nuberu claims due process was followed and the appeal window has closed, stating: “The party’s decision stands. If the Daniel camp wants to wail, that’s their right.”
Senator’s Response
Representatives of Senator Daniel welcomed the NWC’s intervention, commending the national body’s commitment to due process. They affirmed Daniel’s continued cooperation with party structures and dismissed the suspension as politically motivated, particularly noting the lack of formal suspension documentation from the state chapter.
The National Working Committee will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations while Senator Daniel maintains his party membership and senatorial duties.
