The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly rejected the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s claims of taking over the state. The APC described these aspirations as nothing more than a political fantasy.
An APC spokesperson, Oladejo, highlighted the stark contrast in ADC’s ambition. He questioned how a party struggling to hold meaningful ward meetings could seek public support to govern Lagos. Lagos is globally recognized as Nigeria’s prime example of consistent governance, innovation, and strong leadership.
Oladejo was emphatic: the ADC cannot win an election in Lagos State.
“Let us be clear,” he stated, “Lagos is not a testing ground for political beginners. This state is not up for grabs. It is certainly not a charitable project for sudden parties seeking relevance through sensational headlines.”
He further described the ADC’s stance as a comical attempt. It aims to inflate a political balloon with the hot air of wishful thinking. He noted a party without proper structures, fresh ideas, credible candidates, or any significant electoral history. Such a party cannot hope to take over Lagos. This state was built through decades of vision, stability, competence, and outstanding performance.
Oladejo recalled that in 2023, and even before then, the ADC struggled to gather enough members to fill a bus stop. Yet, the same party now promises to conquer a state housing over 20 million people. Lagos boasts world-class infrastructure and Nigeria’s most sophisticated electorate. He concluded, “Indeed, there should be limits to political comedy.”
He advised the ADC to first conduct an internal attendance check at their next party meeting. “If they achieve a quorum,” he remarked, “perhaps then they can move on to contesting councillorship seats. Only after that should they even dream of Alausa,” referring to the seat of the Lagos State Government.
