The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclosed that at least four serving governors from opposition parties are in advanced discussions to defect to the party before 2025 concludes.
APC’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East, Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, revealed this development in a recent interview. He confirmed ongoing talks with governors from Plateau, Taraba, Rivers, and Abia states.
Arodiogbu emphasized that these defections appear “highly possible” in the coming weeks. He specifically mentioned Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Abia’s Alex Otti as probable new members.
“We expect Governor Fubara of Rivers and Governor Otti of Abia to join us soon,” Arodiogbu stated. “The Plateau and Taraba governors are equally considering this move.”
The APC chieftain attributed this interest to the party’s inclusive policies. He described APC as the natural home for Nigerian progressives seeking stability.
“Our open-door policy and reform agenda attract quality leadership,” Arodiogbu explained. “Political leaders recognize APC offers Nigeria clear direction.”
He further noted the national chairman’s efforts to welcome supporters of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. This approach has strengthened APC’s position as Nigeria’s dominant party.
The anticipated defections would significantly boost APC’s strength. They come ahead of the party’s 2025 congresses and the 2027 general elections.
