The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized Tanimu Turaki, the new factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This criticism follows Turaki’s call for United States President Donald Trump. He also urged the international community to intervene in Nigeria’s political affairs.
Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, issued a statement on Tuesday. He condemned Turaki’s remarks as both reckless and unpatriotic.
Morka expressed shame over Turaki’s actions. He noted that Turaki, instead of fostering peace within his party, advocated for foreign intervention. This, Morka stated, was a solution to their self-inflicted internal crisis.
The statement further elaborated on Turaki’s perceived state. It described him as desperate, confused, and incoherent. The APC suggested he lacked the stamina and capacity to manage his party’s deep crisis. This assessment came despite his recent appointment as factional chairman.
“Nigerians anticipated Turaki would embark on a swift mission,” the statement read. “They expected him to unite his party’s warring factions through dialogue. However, his first official act was to call for foreign invasion of Nigeria. He presented this as a solution to the PDP’s internal crisis. This act is not only shameful but also a grave threat to national security and sovereignty.”
The APC highlighted the PDP’s 16-year rule. During that period, opposition parties faced “ruthless subversion.” Yet, there was no call for foreign invasion to resolve internal crises. “Turaki’s call,” the statement declared, “is an admission of the party’s inability to manage its contradictions. It also serves as a final certification of the PDP’s demise.”
The APC urged the international community to disregard Turaki’s “disgraceful and unpatriotic call.” They labeled it a “pitiful distraction” from the PDP’s failed internal democracy. The statement added that the desperation of the PDP and other opposition leaders is now evident. Turaki’s actions reveal their willingness to seek “destructive intervention” from foreign powers. This, they claimed, is to further their “sinister political agenda.”
“We urge all Nigerians to stand firm in support of our great Party,” the APC concluded. “They should also support the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu. We continue the arduous task of building progress and prosperity across all areas of our national life.”
