The Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has dismissed circulating reports. These reports falsely claimed the demise of veteran Nollywood actor, Olalere Paimo.

How the Death Rumour Started
Celebrity journalist Seun Oleketuyi sparked the rumour. He also chairs the Best of Nollywood Awards. Oleketuyi announced the actor’s alleged death on Saturday. His announcement was made via an Instagram post.
Oleketuyi described Paimo as a cultural icon. He noted that Paimo had survived two strokes before his supposed passing. The journalist’s post read: “Chief Lere Paimo (MON) is dead. Baba died at age 86.”
He added, “A strong man. Baba survived a stroke twice. May Baba’s soul rest in peace.”
ANTP Confirms Lere Paimo is Alive
The ANTP quickly responded to these reports. They issued a statement on Saturday. Prince Adejonwo Oluwafemi Femson, their National Public Relations Officer, signed it. The statement confirmed that Olalere Paimo is indeed alive. He is also in good health.
Paimo is widely known as Baba Eda Onile Ola. The ANTP statement clarified the situation. It informed the public, saying: “Reports circulating on Facebook about the passing of Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR) are false.”
The association confirmed this fact. They stated: “We have confirmed with Baba Eda Onile Ola’s wife that he is alive and in good health.”
They urged the public, “Please disregard these false reports. Be aware that unscrupulous individuals are spreading them.”
Verify Information Before Sharing
The ANTP stressed the importance of verifying news. They advised the public to always confirm information. This should happen before sharing unverified reports. The association warned against the dangers of spreading misinformation.
“We urge everyone to verify information before sharing,” the statement emphasized. This helps to avoid spreading false news.
