The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has suspended its governorship candidate, Jude Ezenwafor. This follows his alleged uncooperative and destructive conduct during the recent election campaign period.
The decision came as Ezenwafor appeared at the Anambra State Government House. He congratulated victorious Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Meanwhile, PDP’s state executive committee met to ratify his suspension at their secretariat.
State Chairman Chidi Chidebe detailed the allegations against Ezenwafor. After securing the party’s ticket, Ezenwafor reportedly withdrew from campaign activities. He failed to hold meetings or organize rallies. He also neglected to seek party support.
Ezenwafor later claimed he was attacked and shot in Abuja. The PDP leadership found this account questionable. Party officials stated he provided no evidence to support his claim.
Disastrous Election Performance
The party communique highlighted Ezenwafor’s conduct as destructive to PDP interests. His electoral performance proved particularly concerning. In his home ward of Nnobi Ward 3, he secured just one vote.
This result covered twelve polling units. It marked PDP’s worst performance in any Anambra ward. The communique stated this showed his lack of commitment to the party.
Disciplinary Measures Taken
The state executive committee suspended Ezenwafor for one month. They also recommended further disciplinary action. The National Working Committee will receive formal notification of this decision.
The party advised blocking Ezenwafor’s access to PDP’s National Secretariat. They also urged police to investigate his shooting allegation. No security or hospital reports have verified his claim.
PDP officials expressed disappointment with the election outcome. They described it as the party’s worst performance in Anambra history. The party squarely blamed Ezenwafor’s conduct for the results.
