The Labour Party (LP) faced a significant upset on Saturday. The party lost in the polling unit of its national leader, Peter Obi. This occurred during the Anambra governorship election. Obi was LP’s 2023 presidential candidate.
The results emerged from Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11. This unit is in Anaocha Local Government Area. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, secured 73 votes. He defeated the LP candidate, George Moghalu, who scored 57 votes.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate finished third. They garnered 38 votes.
Earlier, Peter Obi cast his ballot at this same unit. Residents had expected a strong LP performance. This community previously showed overwhelming support for Obi. He won over 95 per cent of votes here in 2023.

In a related development, Ukachukwu also triumphed in another key location. He won in the polling unit of the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo. Early results are still coming in from across the state.
