Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has declared that genuine reconciliation is vital. He believes it is essential for the state’s development, growth, and overall progress.
Speaking at the 24th Eket Field Annual Convention of The Apostolic Church on Sunday, Governor Eno appealed to residents. He urged them to abandon hatred and leave past grievances behind.
During the service, Governor Eno noted that humans are not perfect. He stressed that just as God forgives human sins, people should also forgive each other.
“We are not perfect, but God’s love has brought us the goodwill of the people,” he admonished. “As true Christians, we must learn to forgive easily and reconcile with one another for our collective good.”
Embracing Forgiveness for Collective Progress
The governor implored the people to learn from the past and then move on. “What I do is, I learn from the past; I forgive and move on,” he stated. “But I won’t give you the opportunity to repeat the mistake.”
“For me, forgiveness is a cardinal principle in life. It has greatly benefited us as a state,” Governor Eno added. “Let us cultivate this virtue of forgiveness and learn to let things go for our common good and progress.”
He further illustrated his point with a popular saying. “Any community that practices ‘an eye for an eye’ will soon find everyone blind,” he cautioned.
“If God, by His grace, elevates you, do not victimize others. Instead, you should thank God and unite everyone,” he advised. “Reconcile the people. I have personally learned to reconcile with everyone, regardless of their personality or our differences.”
Governor Eno also extended his appreciation to the church. He thanked them for their fervent prayers and unwavering support throughout his administration. Their backing was instrumental during his electioneering in 2023 and continues to be for the success of his government.
