Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced that Professor Nentawe Yilwatda’s chairmanship marks a good turn for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State. This declaration came during a recent defection ceremony in Jos.
The event took place on Saturday at the Jos Polo Field. It drew a massive turnout of party supporters. Many defectors from various political parties formally joined the ruling APC in Plateau State.
Anietie Ekong, Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media and Communication, released a statement on Sunday. It confirmed new members joining the APC from five political parties. These parties included the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), PRP, African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Akpabio Lauds Yilwatda, Credits Tinubu’s Influence
Senator Akpabio represented President Bola Tinubu at the gathering. He lauded the nation’s leader for recognizing Professor Yilwatda’s capabilities. Akpabio also expressed strong confidence in the APC’s future in the state.
“My ears have heard, and my eyes have seen that from today, the entire Plateau is APC,” Akpabio declared. He confidently added, “Come 2027, Plateau shall deliver the APC.”
He highlighted the caliber of new members. Akpabio remarked, “Today, we have received political caterpillars, including several governorship candidates from the last election. We also welcomed the Director-General of PDP campaigns in the last election. Additionally, several serving and former members of the National Assembly and their numerous supporters joined us.”
Akpabio continued his praise for Professor Nentawe and President Tinubu. He stated, “Let me appreciate President Tinubu for finding a man of valour, integrity, and dignity in Prof. Nentawe. You can see he has already delivered Plateau State to the APC before the elections.”
Emphasizing Tinubu’s immense influence, Akpabio added a powerful metaphor. “When you are escorted by a lion like President Tinubu, you have nothing to fear.”
Commitment to Peace and Security in Plateau
Akpabio assured Plateau State residents about their security. He confirmed President Tinubu is actively addressing these concerns. The Senate President commended Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to regional peace.
He noted that incessant killings and displacements have plagued communities for years. These issues, he stressed, must end. “Too many lives have been lost. Too many homes destroyed. Plateau deserves peace,” Akpabio stated firmly. He added, “Anyone who wants to govern this state must be committed to peace.”
Expressing personal anguish, Akpabio concluded, “I cry whenever anybody is killed in Plateau. The state is yearning for peace, and President Tinubu will deliver peace to Plateau State.”
