Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi exudes confidence. He believes Nigeria is well-positioned for a victorious campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The prestigious tournament begins in Morocco on December 21st. It will conclude on January 18th.
Iwobi played a key role in Nigeria’s journey to the last AFCON final. They narrowly lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast. He now states the squad has returned stronger. They are more determined than ever to claim the title this time.
Speaking with AySuga Channel, the Fulham midfielder shared his optimism. “We were really close last AFCON,” Iwobi noted. He stressed, “The only way we can improve is to win it.” He firmly believes in the team’s capabilities. “We have the players to do it, we believe we can, we just have to prove it,” he added.
This confidence mirrors widespread expectations. Many football analysts tip the Super Eagles as strong contenders. Anticipation is building ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
Jerome Akor Laments Sevilla Derby Loss
Meanwhile, in Spain, Sevilla forward Jerome Akor expressed deep frustration. His comments followed a painful 2-0 home defeat. The loss was to bitter rivals Real Betis in the Seville derby on Sunday.
This result exacerbates Sevilla’s recent struggles. It marked their fourth loss in five league outings. Under manager Mattias Almeyda, the hosts enjoyed long spells of dominance. However, wasteful finishing ultimately cost them. This has been a recurring problem throughout their season.
Akor did not hide his disappointment after the match. He described the defeat as exceptionally “hard to take.”
He told the club’s official website, “We can’t lose like this. It’s not just a defeat, it’s a slap in the face at home.” Akor acknowledged their control. “For much of the game, we were in control, we had chances,” he stated. Yet, he admitted, “but they took theirs, and there are no excuses.” He concluded, “We have to work hard and keep going.”
