Adewole Adebayo Accuses Tinubu of Interfering in Opposition Parties
The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has challenged President Bola Tinubu over claims that he is meddling in the affairs of opposition parties as the 2027 general election approaches.
The SDP is currently plagued by internal conflict, a situation that led to Adebayo’s expulsion by the Shehu Gabam faction of the party.
Speaking on the matter, Adebayo urged the president to remain within the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that Tinubu cannot serve as a “candidate‑general” for the nation.
He said, “President Tinubu is the author of the so‑called crisis in the SDP. What they are doing to the SDP mirrors what they have done to other political parties. We do not know who Abimbola Atanda is within the SDP, and we do not engage with agents.”
Adebayo continued, “I am simply letting President Tinubu know that he cannot be the candidate for the APC, SDP, and Labour Party; he cannot be the Candidate‑General of the federation. He should stick to his own party.”
He added, “They passed a law stating that no one may belong to more than one party, yet Tinubu wants to be affiliated with all political parties while acting as the Chairman of INEC and a part‑time Chief Justice of Nigeria.”
