The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is accepting new members. These individuals have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and other political groups. The ADC views these new entrants as “political refugees.”
Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, made this assertion. He explained that defectors arrive from destabilized parties. They were often sidelined or displaced by internal conflicts.
ADC’s Focus on Internal Stability
Speaking to journalists, Abdullahi elaborated on ADC’s strategy. He highlighted that the party’s constitution prevents any single person or group from dominating. This safeguard arose from observing failures in other political platforms.
“We understand what led us here,” he stated. “It was the internal contradictions within those parties.” He added, “In building ADC, we ensure a different political philosophy.” “We have leaders, but they do not control the party.” “We recall our origins and what destabilized other political parties.”
Prioritizing Party Building Over Ambition
Abdullahi explained that unchecked ambition has ruined many political parties. ADC has successfully avoided such pitfalls. No member has publicly declared bids for governorship, Senate, or presidency.
“Even presidential aspirants are only rumoured,” he noted. “No one has officially announced a bid.” “This is the discipline we aim to instill.” “We want to build a strong political party first.” “This party will then accommodate everyone’s ambition.”
The ADC spokesman emphasized the party’s commitment to strong internal unity. They remain vigilant against any external interference. This ensures steady growth and supports members’ future aspirations.
Zoning Not on ADC’s Agenda
Abdullahi also insisted that zoning discussions are not on the party’s current agenda. He stated that the opposition platform’s immediate concern is building a strong, credible opposition. Nigerians should be able to trust this platform.
