A fresh leadership dispute has fractured the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State. Two competing factions now assert control over the party’s chairmanship position.
The conflict sets Sadiq Dasin against Saidu Komsiri. Both politicians insist on recognition as the legitimate state chairman.
Key Figures Back Rival Groups
Babachir Lawal, ADC National Vice-Chairman and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, endorsed Dasin’s faction. Lawal declared this group the “authentic leadership” in Adamawa.
“Any other group claiming to lead ADC here is null and void,” Lawal stated. His position receives support from prominent figures including former Governor Bindow Jibrilla and ex-Senators Abdul-Aziz Nyako and Elisha Abbo.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar also backed Dasin through a Facebook statement. He expressed hope the faction would “strengthen our party’s structure and unify all ADC members.” Atiku pledged unequivocal support for the inaugurated leadership.
Opposition Faction Challenges Claims
The Komsiri-led faction rejected Lawal’s assertions. They dismissed his authority to represent zonal and national leadership as “false.” Komsiri reportedly receives backing from former senator Aisha Binani.
Speaking to journalists in Yola, Komsiri outlined reconciliation plans. “I’ll unite aggrieved members and promote stakeholder unity,” he promised. The chairman pledged to oversee membership registration drives and organize congresses at all administrative levels.
2027 Election Concerns Emerge
Political observers express growing concern about the deepening rift. The internal conflict raises questions about ADC’s preparedness for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. Party unity remains uncertain as both factions maintain competing claims.
